about the bunker

  • What is this place?

Situated on Ngambri / Ngunnawal land, the Bunker Arts Studio is the creation of Dennis Mortimer, accomplished local artist and art teacher. On a "usual" day, Dennis runs classes from the studio, however  on the last Saturday of the month (or thereabouts), the space is transformed into a welcoming performance space for bands, solo acts and other creatives to bring together likeminded individuals for a fun evening of entertainment and connection.
  • Can i get involved in art classes, too?

Absolutely! Dennis runs inclusive and relaxed art classes at various times of the week and on weekends.
See contact details below for how to get in touch!

  • Who organises band night?

Dennis' studio is has a great atmosphere for informal band nights and other performances. Band nights are run for the purpose of supporting local artists and wider community by providing a relaxed venue where all are welcome. Dennis not only opens his studio for band nights, but also turns a mean sausage on the renowned Bunker BBQ!

These Band Night events are supported by enthusiastic Bunker regulars, Paul Alexander and Sarah Williams, who are only too happy to help with booking requests for bands and tickets and any questions on the night.

  • Where's annette?

After many years of supporting the Bunker and Artist Shed band nights, Annette has recently chosen to take a step back from organising the monthly Band Nights. Annette is a natural at making Bunker guests and bands feel welcome and is a dear friend to many of you, so we will all be missing her fondly as the music plays on. Hope you pay us a visit form time-to-time, Annette!

FAQ FOR GUESTS

  • HOW DO I BOOK TICKETS and how much is entry?

Tickets to Monthly Band Nights can be booked via the online form on the HOME PAGE OR by contacting Paul at either contact@bunkermusic.net or by phone on 0407 103 050
The cost is a suggested donation of $20 per ticket. The vast majority of proceeds will be passed to the bands (so your generosity is appreciated). Occasionally, a larger than normal crowd will mean that some takings will be used to support additional BBQ supplies.
A free BBQ is provided for guests and bands and is a chance to chat and catch up with one another.
  • how do i pay?

Cash is the simplest way for us to accept payment at the moment and to distribute to the bands on the night. We are working on ways to accept electronic payments and transfers and will let you know through our mailing list when we have this available. Feel free to let us know if cash is an issue for you, as we can probably work something out.
  • what about refreshments?

The Bunker is a BYO venue, so feel free to bring any refreshments or snacks you like.

FAQ FOR PERFORMERS

  • HOW DO I PLAY AT THE BUNKER?

Bookings for Monthly Band Nights can be discussed via the online form on the HOME PAGE OR by contacting Paul at either contact@bunkermusic.net or by phone on 0407 103 050
A free BBQ is provided for guests and bands and is a chance to chat and catch up with one another.
Band nights are typically on the last Saturyday of the month, starting at 6pm finishing at 9pm. The night will usually feature 2 or 3 bands with the BBQ running between the sets at approximately 7:15pm.
  • what gear is available?

The Bunker has in in-house PA system available to use at no charge, or you are welcome to bring your own sound gear (mics, etc.).  Bands can manage their own sound set-up and mixing, or we can try to coordinate a mixing person, who will charge a modest fee to the bands, to be taking from the door.
  • what happens with the ticket sales?

Door takings will be happily passed onto the bands in full, minus the sound engineer fees (if required). Occasionally a larger than normal crowd will require additional catering for the BBQ, so we'll negotiate some extra funds well ahead if required.
Speaking of crowds, this is your event and bands are expected to promote their performance widely. More people = more fun!
  • bands and support acts

Bands looking to play at the Bunker are encouraged to coordinate with other quality performers to ensure the band night smoothly operates with at least 2 acts on the night. We may be able to provide contacts for other interested musos who will be keen to support. You can always email Paul at contact@bunkermusic.net if you need any more info.
